Check Valves
Check Valves are used to allow flow through a pipeline in one direction and prevent flow (check) from returning in the opposite direction. Check valves are commonly installed on the discharge side of the pump. The most important role of a check valve is to act as the automatic shut off valve when the pump stops to prevent draining of the system. Pressure Surge (Water Hammer) can be greatly controlled by selecting the correct check valve. DeZURIK factory trained representatives and application engineers can assist you in sizing and selecting the correct check valve for your application.
The SmartCHECK Pump Control Valve with integrated swing check and electric motor operator combines the functionality of a full-featured pump control valve with the best features of APCO’s CVS-6000 swing check valve. It is the valve you need when you want to control pressure surge during pump startup and shutdown, and close when the pump stops - even during a power outage. The electric motor actuator eliminates the need for hydraulic actuation providing the most economical solution, the lowest cost of ownership and the least maintenance. There are no pressurized hydraulic oil lines to leak, no solenoids or strainers to maintain, and no hydraulic power unit is required.
SmartCHECK Pump Control Valves are available in sizes 4-20” (100-500mm). They are constructed of ASTM 536 ductile iron with 17-4 PH stainless steel shaft. The disc seat is durable Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE) for extended life. The body seat is Type 316 stainless steel. Flanged ends are faced and drilled per ASME B16.1 class 125 or 250, ASME B16.42 class 150 or 300
All APCO Swing Check Valves (CVS-6000/6000A, CVS-250/250A and CVS-EDV) are used to prevent the back flow of fluid by closing before flow reversal, thereby preventing slam and water hammer. APCO Swing Check Valves have been successfully installed in clean and dirty applications including sewage treatment, water treatment, water distribution, industrial water and wastewater services. The designs meet or exceed the current revision of AWWA standard C508.

Rubber Flapper Swing Check Valves feature a unique, simple design with only one moving part. The flapper does not swing from a hinge pin; it simply flexes open. The seat is on a 45° angle. The flapper travels 35° from open to closed, usually before column reversal can occur. It has non-slam characteristics. The valve requires no regular maintenance. Recommended for water, sewage, gas, oil and rubber lined for chemicals.
APCO CRF-100A Rubber Flapper Swing Check Valves are uniquely simple in design but durable for use on a variety of applications. Available in sizes 2-24” (50-600mm), they are available in Ductile Iron with ASME 125/150 flanges and maximum pressure ratings up to 250 psi (1720 kPa). The APCO CRF-100A Rubber Flapper Swing Check Valve meets the latest revision of AWWA C508 for Swing Check Valves for Waterworks Service.
With decades of experience to guarantee reliability and outstanding performance, APCO CSD Slanting Disk Check Valves are ruggedly designed with superior flow characteristics, minimal head loss and maximum slam resistance. Slanting disc check valves are the most reliable and efficient check valves available. APCO CSD Slanting Disc Check Valves are available in sizes 2-72" (50-1800mm) with ASME 125/150 flanged end connections or 2-48" (50-1200mm) with ASME 250/300 flanges. They are ideally suited for clean municipal/industrial water and other industrial liquid applications.
APCO Double Door Check Valves by DeZURIK are designed to automatically prevent back-flow in systems where it is desirable to permit flow in one direction and prevent flow in the opposite direction. Double door check valves are recommended for clean liquids and gasses and have an excellent performance reputation in refineries, petrochemical, gas liquefaction, other process industries and HVAC applications because of their cost-efficient design and non-slam properties.
Double door check valves are spring loaded for fast, non-slam shut-off against the elastomer or metal body seat. When the pump starts and the downstream flow creates the required pressure drop in the forward direction, the double doors will automatically open. When the pump stops and the flow ceases, the torsion of the spring will automatically close the double doors prior to flow reversal. This creates a positive shut-off against flow reversal and minimizes system surges and water hammer.
APCO CSC Silent Check Valves are designed to mitigate water hammer by positively closing before reversal of flow can occur. The valve closes silently, is low in cost, reliable and requires no regular maintenance. Available with wafer or globe style bodies, sizes range from 1-42" (25-1100mm). They are available with Ductile Iron, Cast Iron, Carbon Steel or 316 Stainless Steel bodies with ASME 125/150 or ASME 250/300 end connections.
Silent check valves are commonly used in vertical turbine pump installations when pumping from a well to an elevated reservoir. They are also recommended for commercial and industrial HVAC applications such as heating systems and condensate return lines. When specified, the APCO CSC Silent Check Valves are Factory Mutual System Approved for use on hazardous fire fighting equipment and fire protection systems.
APCO Full Flow Foot Valve (FFF) s a type of check valve designed for submerged water or clean fluids service and typically installed at the bottom of a suction line and inside a wet well. It is an inexpensive way to maintain prime on a single centrifugal pump. They are available with Ductile Iron, Carbon Steel or 316 Stainless Steel bodies with ASME 125/150 end connections in sizes 3-24” (80-600mm).
Since the valve is continuously submerged, it is not readily accessible for inspection or repair. For this reason, the valve is constructed with high quality long-wearing materials. It has a heavy cast body, rugged stainless steel internals and drop tight resilient seating to ensure no loss of suction. The strainer cap is constructed from heavy stainless steel and securely bolted to the valve body.
APCO FRF Full Flow Rubber Flapper Foot Valve is a type of check valve designed for raw sewage applications typically installed at the bottom of a suction line and inside a wet well. It is an inexpensive way to maintain prime on a single centrifugal pump.
Since the valve is continuously submerged, it is not readily accessible for inspection or repair. For this reason, the valve is constructed with high quality long-wearing materials. It has a heavy cast body with integral flanges and drop tight resilient seating to ensure no loss of suction.
The APCO Full Flow Rubber Flapper Foot Valve seat is at a 45 degree angle to the centerline of the pipe. This allows flow up vertical installation and minimizes the flapper travel distance from closed to fully open position. The shorter travel distance minimizes head loss and aids in non-slam closure.
The H-900 is designed for horizontal or vertical flow with a large flow area (not suitable for down-flow applications).
The angled seat reduces disk travel from full closed to full open. The valve is equipped with a shaft pivot located slightly above centerline; pressure on disk area above pivot partiality balances pressure on area below pivot to reduce slamming. The valve is available with external counterweight and dampener.
The H-900 can be fabricated from any weldable alloy and is clearly marked to show direction of flow.
The H-920 is designed for horizontal flow. The narrow face to face saves room in piping systems and the disc stop prevents interference between the disc and downstream piping. The valve is available with an external spring, counterweight or dampener. Seats can be metal or resilient, and body style can be wafer or with full flange with threaded bolt holes.
The Tilting Disc Check Valve is designed with the shaft close to valve centerline which balances the disc so that the valve will open at a low pressure differential. O-ring shaft seals reduce friction. Seats can be metal or resilient, and body style can be wafer or with full flange with threaded bolt holes. Tilting Disc Check Valves are available with external counterweight or spring.
The H-950 Swing Check Valve is designed for horizontal or vertical flow (not suitable for down-flow applications). When fully open the valve disc is out of the flow area allowing for 100% uninterrupted flow. Seating can be metal or resilient. The valve comes equipped with a bolted cover which can be removed while the valve is in the line. The connection between the disc and disc arm allows disc to move for precise alignment with the seating surface. The valve is available with external counterweight and bottom mounted buffer.
