NYC DEP Coney Island WWTP BNR Upgrade
The Coney Island WWTP BNR Upgrade in Brooklyn NY involved cleaning and replacing infrastructure related to four aeration tanks. As a part of this project, many valves were replaced, and the service ranged from sewage to aeration.
For sewage service NYC DEP specifies DeZURIK plug valves due their sustained superior quality and reliability over many years in all NYC wastewater treatment facilities. With features including 100% port, cylindrical plug and American Iron and Steel compliant components, DeZURIK valves are the best in the industry.
For aeration service NYC DEP uses 316 SST pipe. The best valves for this service are DeZURIK High Performance Butterfly (BHP) valves. The valves have 316 SST bodies and are specifically configured for air service. The NYC DEP specification requires 17-4PH Stainless Steel shafts and Teflon seats with Titanium backup rings. The valves are also American Iron and Steel compliant. Configured this way, DeZURIK BHP’s will have several decades of reliable service.
These valves are also largely installed outside with Auma
electric actuators. The AUMA actuators are weatherproof, offer a modular design and are integrated with a SIMA 2 Valve Data station.
Tek-Sales has worked closely with RJ Industries in the installation of these valves and the project has been very successful. The final tanks will be completed soon and Coney Island WWTP will have increased capability to handle NYC’s wastewater.
